July 19, 2023 – Blacks Harbour, NB, Canada – Cooke Aquaculture Inc. is warning the public of scammers impersonating human resources employees from Cooke.

Cooke has received several reports of persons falsely claiming to work for Cooke on social media and recruitment platforms such as LinkedIn and Indeed. The fraudsters are offering employment positions and requesting copies of government issued I.D. cards, proof of address documents (ex: utility bill, recent pay slip, bank statement, etc.), and cheque payment information such as a direct deposit form or void cheque.

To convince the person they are legitimate and, in an attempt to obtain private and financial information from intended victims, the fraudsters email false documents such as a contract of employment. The fraudsters may also confirm a home office setup and training process.

As a family company, Cooke is reminding the public to protect themselves against fraud and scams. Scammers are savvy criminals who use a variety of tactics to get personal and financial information to access funds or steal identities.

Those who believe they are a victim or have been approached by scammers should contact their local police or RCMP.
